Today, Dylan discusses NATO in its original form from its inception in 1949 until the end of the Cold War. During this period, NATO wasn't involved in a single military engagement and acted purely as a deterrent against military aggression. Today, we find ourselves at a point in time where NATO as a deterrent could be set to fail, regarding tensions building with Russia. How did we get from Russia wanting to join NATO in the early 1990s, to the existence of multiple flashpoints where tensions between NATO and Russia are elevated, including Ukraine, Moldova, and the Baltics?
Facts And Corrections:
The Russians didn't want to go through the usual application process in the 1990s because they believed they should have been invited to join.
Macron stated NATO was suffering a "brain death" in 2019, not 2018.
