Lots to unfold today. I bought Peter Zeihan’s new book “The End of the World is Just the Beginning” last week and I am enjoying it thus far. Has a very similar feel to “Sapiens” in that it is currently covering how ancient communities and civilizations lived.
Russia had a payment on May 27th that it appears they haven’t met. This means Russia has defaulted on its debt, for the first time since 1918. The interest payment was for $100 million on international bonds. Putin is expected to begin resuming trips to foreign countries this week as he plans to visit Belarus this week to meet with Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarusian president.
In the last week, prices have dropped massively in the food and energy sectors where inflation is highest. Chicago Wheat is priced at 937.08 at the time of writing, which equates to $9.37 per bushel. One bushel is equivalent to 60 pounds of wheat.
